aya most albums feel like a gift from the artist to you, but this one rather feels like the artist is taking you to share the feeling of emptiness with them. easily my favorite album of 2023, if not one of my favorite albums of all time. Favorite track: it means everything.

Lichclaev In an attempt to explain how this album made me feel, I found that in itself to be an extraordinarily difficult task and I wasn’t sure why. But I think I understand now.

Unreason and Empty Space is an album about nothing. Like the absence of light, it hollows out a part of me in a previously enigmatic way.

This album leans into the unoccupied feeling that 2020-23 has given to me.

I connect to this very deeply and, therefore, it became a favorite album of mine almost instantly. Favorite track: a body keeping score.

Embedded in those moments where everything breaks down is a cruel ocean of shattered emotion. Crystalline shards of once-recognizable potentials rendered forlorn and jagged to the touch.

unreason and empty space began conception in early january 2020.
atrophy set in, affecting my world, the things i was making, and - most aggressively - the things i had made.

whatever story i was trying to tell escapes me, if i was trying to tell one at all

but i recognised the early inspirations from other artists - the moments of a conversation, snippets of texts - that became song titles
i recognised my world, and how small it had gotten

the concept of what i was trying to make still escapes me but amidst all the vague and not-so-fond memories i recognise some reason and rhythm
this album fills some of those blanks spaces in memory
those blurry edges around my vision.
the uncertainty of what i'm doing
it all becomes a little more inviting

it's a step in some direction.
